Paigeys Mom

I received an email from Paigeys Mom today, so I wanted to write a public message to her in hope that it will help others too. Unfortunately, doctors are not taught to have compassion. They are trained to run tests to figure out what is making us ill. I believe some doctors are born compassionate people, while others are not. I have been very fortunate to have a wonderful doctor who cares for his patients. Dr. Bruce Blackwell is not afraid to run the necessary tests to get answers efficiently. If you live in Orlando Florida, I highly recommend Dr. Blackwell. He is a family practice doctor, not a sleep disorders doctor.

Paigeys mom is going to make it through this situation because she has hope. She understands that there is nothing we can do about our condition and that nobody else will even begin to comprehend the fatigue, memory lapses, speech issues or paralysis we experience on a daily basis. Her comments to me shows her desperation and despair, but her hope shines through. She will be one more who will overcome.

I highly recommend counseling if you can afford it. It will teach you coping skills and help give you peace. Remember folks, we all have a horrific condition that eats away at our lives, but we are alive and we can still live life to its fullest with little naps in between. In my case, three hour naps. lol......

Excellent post! As a fellow PWN, I can't even imagine how I could have survived thus far if it were not for my therapist. Narcolepsy easily would have "won," if I had not long ago begun to learn how to accept the limitations of my condition while also finding way to appreciate the gifts that it also brings.
